| | | | | For intake and cooling systems, 6061 aluminum is the most popular and versatile alloy, and is the least expensive of the heat treatable aluminum alloys. |
|
 | | | Our straight aluminum tubing is sold in the T6 condition, ideal for sawing, machining, sanding, and polishing. |
 | All of our bends are initially annealed to the ” 0 ” condition, which is necessary for bending. During the bending process, some work hardening in the bend area occurs, and the finished bends are classed as condition “ F “. If you’re going to polish your aluminum bends, they should be solution heat treated to T6. |
 | | | 6061 Aluminum is normally not recommended for exhaust systems. |
| | | | | For U–bends you can determine the CenterLine Radius ( CLR ) by measuring across the outside edges of the bend, subtracting the tubing O.D., and dividing by 2. A UB-200-30-16-6061, for example, measures 8” across the outside edges, and has an O.D. of 2”. Subtracting 2” from 8” gives 6”, and dividing by 2
equals 3”; so the CLR is 3.0”. |
